Look, if it's California, email you and I will give you some pointers. Even if it isn't CA, there are options. My god people here are so quick to cradle police jocks (mind you I have immense respect for the police but they are human too) while bashing lawyers. Such apathy, it's disappointing. Basic speed law in CA, if you are under 55 and it is safe for conditions (CVC 22349) and you can show you were safe for conditions, you win. However, speeding(CVC 22350) then they get you for going even 56 in a 55 regardless of whether they wrote you up for 90. Other states vary. Tickets are winnable, use your head, and have a game plan. I've beaten many I've possibly deserved but officers exaggerated, relied on feeble evidence, or dismissed them, while paying for others I plainly deserved over the years. I also prematurely ended the career of a harassing CHP officer for stalking me repeatedly for tickets in my old Stingray that I did not. I won't apologize for it either. I hope he is bagging groceries somewhere, but he will not be messing with anyone else under color of authority. Police are human, our cars attract attention, bad things can happen. Even most LAPD guys (several are amongst my best friends) will tell you CHP guys are frequently total tools. Those of you bashing this kid because he's young or was travelling 49 in a 45 need to lighten up. It wouldn't excuse the officers for LYING on a court document and fabricating evidence. As an officer of the court, I think that's crap. I'll take his word for it for now since I do stand by the notion of "innocent until proven guilty". Based on that, I'd take the rap and traffic school for speeding at 49, (because you've admitted you are guilty) but you'lll get peppered with a bigger fine based on the cop's purported misrepresentations. That part is unfair, IF what you say it true. If they will let you go to traffic school and reduce the fine to what is appropriate take the deal because that's just; if not, consider fighting it. Yes, lawyers are a waste of money for traffic infractions, so this is free advice and probably a bit more helpful than "next time don't speed" I wish you good luck.
